Hi,
I am trying to find Samuel Knapton from Massachusetts who joined Co. H of the 3rd Regulars around 1851. Five years later he joined Co. G, 1st Regulars and then he joined Co. K of the NY 51st Vols around 1861. He was wounded/blinded at Antietam and lived at the Tewksbury Almshouse until he was transfered to a Soldiers Home on Feb 27, 1867.
The only record I can find of his service is the record at the Almshouse.
There is no record of a Samuel Knapton with the NY 51st, Co. K. I have a list of those from the NY 51st Co. K who were injured at Anteitam, however he was not listed. He may have used an alias, or his last name may have been misspelled.
Is it possible to compare the lists of Co H, 3rd Regulars with the roster of Co G, 1st Regulars and eventualy with the list from Co. K 51st NY Vols to see if there is a common name that Samuel could have used? If so, how could I do it or could someone help? I would like to find this individual. It would be nice to recogonize his service to his country.
Thanks in advance, Alan Knapton
