Hello,

My late father told me that his maternal grandfather, Thomas (Tom) Anderson was in the Confederate Army. I am trying to confirm this piece of information, but don't know how to go about identifying his regiment and rank. All I know is his name - which is very generic - and that he was born in November 1837 and died in Montgomery, Alabama around 1913. I found him with my great-grandmother (Emma), my grandmother and her siblings in the 1900 and 1910 census; they were living in Martins Precinct, Dallas County. I found a Tom Anderson in the same area in the 1870 and 1880 census, but I am not sure if this is the same Tom as he was not married to by great-grandmother at the time - he was married to a woman named Amanda. I am afraid I don't know Tom's parent's names, but think his father was in the Calvary. Also, although Tom looks white (I have a photo), he was identified as black or mulatto throughout the censuses.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Peace,
Iman
