Lt Col. Francis Robert Stevens, West Point grad 1924?
Could someone help me find if he was in the class of 1924? that should be right within a year. He died in WW II June 9, 1942 I believe. "Lyndon Johnson was initially assigned to Lt. Bench's aircraft, "The Virginian" but he apparently left the aircraft to retrieve his camera and on return he found Lt. Col Fancis R Stevens had taken his place." The Virginian didn't make it.
Also I would really appreciate a scan of his yearbook photo if anyone has one.

Hi KC, Do you know what type of plane it was...B-24, B-25, B-17 etc? Do you know the plane number?
I think you are also correct about the date of his death. I found this today.

In my last posting, I forgot to mention that I think you can find out more about Mr. Stevens by writing to the address below and ask for his Indivicual Deceased Personnel File (IDPF). Be sure to mention the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in your request if you decide to do so. And also be advised that what you might receive can be quite graphic. Use the burial information I sent you to help expedite your request. It can still take up to 6 months to receive any information.

Thanks for this suggestion! We just requested records on my husband's father and two uncles who served in World War II. I would have checked on a third uncle but I can't find his date of death, service record, or social security number. Still tracking that down. Eventually I may ask for Francis Steven's record too. He sounds like a remarkable person.

I believe you are talking about my grandfather. If you are still interested in some information I can get you in touch with my father. Are you interested because you are a member of the family. If so, he has done quite a bit of family tree research on his own. Not sure if he is an ancestry member. Knowing him, probably not.

He was my Uncle and he did graduate from West Point in 1924. I use to have the year Book but I think i gave it to my cousin. I have a picture of him, my Grandfather and my Dad at West Point but don't know how to post it one here.
