There isn't any thing that I can see on his uniform to distinguish whether it's a British or Canadian battle dress uniform. They were both so similar except for quality of the cloth and slight color differences as far as I know. I did enlarge and brighten the photo, maybe that will help someone notice a difference.

Wow, thank you. These old eyes appreciate the larger photo and brighter photo. Appreciate it very much. Will perhaps share this one if you don't mind on my Facebook page as the other is so small and 'dim' :-) Thanks a lot. Mrs. Davies. Kingston. Ontario.

Glad to help, just sorry there was nothing I could see that would tell if it was Canadian or British.

Not sure it would make much difference which the uniform is - we would also like to (hahaha in our dreams) identify this mystery soldier. (Short form story) - this pic was in my mother's wallet when she passed away in 1995. Within hours I learned from my brother who was in Europe that I had a sister (odd he knew from 1960 and I never herd about it ever).. and here I was in my 50s just learned. I did find my sister eventually and as this photo has no name or anything on the back we suspect it may be my half sisters' birth father. Just a wild guess though. Another family mystery. My mother was only 16 at the time living in England with her parents who were British - had lived in St Catharines Ontario where my mother was born. They all went back to England prior to WWII. My grandparents wouldn't allow my mother to stay at home while pregnant (apparently) and she was sent to a home for unwed mothers. My sister was just informed by the British courts that her adoption records are no longer available? We had hoped they may provide the name of the father. There is no father's name on the birth certificate which Dorothy was able to get when I told her where I was born in Ormskirk, England as my mother had by then married a Canadian soldier. There you have the long story as short as I could. I will just keep sharing the photo and who knows what will happen. Again thank you. My daughter is going to take it to some military types she works with at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa. Maybe they can tell :-) Appreciate your help.

Thank you. Adoption records have been legally asked for and searched for in this case and NONE can be found. Two separate searches were conducted by the court. Also recently learned this was a private adoption but where or if any records exist we do not know.
I found the picture too small to determine if there were any patches to be seen. My husband is retired Canadian Military and he couldn't tell what uniform this was. Interesting thoughts. I was trying to look at the scenery in the photo to determine if that looked British or Canadian and frankly I think it looks more Canadian than British, but there is really no way to tell.
Thanks for the help. I will have another look at that photo. Mrs. D.
