Glad to know I'm not the only one who goes a little nuts when we find a nugget. Just have to keep digging to find the mother lode!
Some of this is new to me. Thank you.
The family story is that my great-grandfather Martin Vanwig (out of Norway) worked for Capt James Matthew Marshallsay on board a ship. He visited the Capt at home and met one of his daughters. Later he met up with the young lady and her sister in New York prepared to marry. But he fell in love with the younger sister (who wasn't home when he previously visited) and married her - Alma Elizabeth Marshallsay. Julia went home and did eventually marry and moved to United States with husband.
Trying to figure out why Capt Marshallsay winds up in Nebraska to end his days . . .
This is my mother's paternal line. I've been focusing on her maternal line, which frankly has been easier to trace.
When I first started all this I was a very messy genealogist and didn't track sources and records. So am starting over and trying to be much more accurate and thorough.
So you have given me lots to look over and work on. Thank you!!!
