Charles McCarthy is listed as a Sergeant, Royal Marines L. on his daughters wedding certificate in 1870. The 1871 census gives her place of birth as Canada, about 1835. Did Marines travel with wives? Were there marines in Canada around 1835?
His other daughter, Catherine, was born Woolwich c.1840. I've been unable to find Charles McCarthy at Kew despite employing a professional, nor have I found the birth of Catherine in Woolwich. Any suggestions?
