Hi.

I am trying to find out if a soldier called HUNNAM, described as being in the 3rd Signals Company, 7th Brigade, 3rd Division, British Expeditionary Force in Ypres in 1914, might be the same soldier whose military career was reported in a Sunderland paper as being in the 1st Durham RGA (1905-1909), then RE for 3 years, then Army Reserve until 1914, followed by service throughout the Great War. He then served in the Army Reserve from 1919 until 1933, and joined the "Terriers" in 1936.

The one in the BEF was engaged in signals duty and wiring in Ypres in 1914.

I believe the one from Sunderland may have had the service number 18326, and worked in Post Office telephone maintenance after WW1. I have attached what records I have been able to find on Ancestry and FMP to this message.

I have not been able to find any records for the soldier in the 3rd Signals Company, 7th Brigade, 3rd Division, BEF.

I am totally ignorant on Army structure and Order of Battle, so would be very grateful if some kind soul could please explain to me whether being in 3rd Signals Company, 7th Brigade, 3rd Division, BEF in 1914 could possibly fit with being in the 1st Durham RGA, RE and the Army Reserve as described above. If they are mutually exclusive, then that will tell me they're not the same soldier.

By the way, I have looked for him in the 1911 census (on Ancestry and FMP), but cannot find him. He shows up in the 1891 and 1901 censuses, though.

Thanks for any help, advice or insights you might be able to offer.

Best wishes,

John
