Medal roll deciphering for Ernest I Williams

Medal roll deciphering for Ernest I Williams

Ernest I Williams was my grandfather who fought with the Royal Engineers in WW1. The family legend is that he served in the trenches where his feet were damaged and he was gassed. It goes on to say that he refused to be trained as an officer because he realised that the officers were shot first because they went over the top first. I have two record cards which might belong to him. Is anyone able to decipher them for me? Do the two cards relate to the same person and which medals are referred to?

Thank you

Thank you very much in deed. I have checked the service records again but cannot find anyone who fits the date of birth and Royal Engineer affiliation. From the family story I believe that my grandfather was an acting sergeant at the end of the war - I do not think that he claimed any sort of pension from the military at the end of the war.
