I descend from a family of McLeans from Inverness-shire. The original emigrant to Quebec Canada was supposedly a Lt. McLean (first name could be Hugh, as one family tradition has it). It is said that this Lt. was wounded at Waterloo, having his leg amputated. In 1816 he emigrated to Canada to take up the post of paymaster for the British troops in Quebec. I would be interested in anyone who may have an idea about who this man could be.
