to all that maybe interested. I found a scrapbook with clippings from the Spanish American War, primarily regarding the Oregon and Washington volunteers. I found this item in an antique store, and loaned it to a library in Oregon for while (since my mother was living there). It is now back with my family and would be willing to check on any relatives for anyone. Send me your question and ancestor name and I will see what I can find out.

The clippings also include obits, promotions, editorials, pictures of the locations in Phillipines, pictures of the US boats, and background info on some of the soldiers. I have not yet determined what newspaper(s) the clippings came from, but they are original.

Could you look up the name, Joseph L. Fitzhue/Fitchue? And I'd also like to get a look at the uniform. From what I've been able to uncover, my great grandfather was with the 9th or 10th Calvery (Buffalo Soldier). I remember stories that his wife kept the buttons from his uniform and that she had tried unsuccessfully to obtain his pension from Soldiers and Sailors Relief....but that was back in the 30's and 40s...long before I came along.

Any help in finding information will be greatly appreciated.

Anita

Reba, Do you have a Christiansen, or Burke listed. Believe 11th cav. Wagoneers. They would have been in service 1899 approx. Thank you for checking for me.

My grandfather was from Texarkana, Arkansas. Frank B. YOUNG, Co. "B", 1st Reg., Ark. Infy. He signed up for his pension and was approved. No idea when, but he died in January 1919 and my grandmother, Gracie L. Young, received a check every month thereafter, until she died in January 1961.
He was in the Span-Am War during 1898. Would like to find a photo, if not of him, then possibly of someone in the U. S. Army uniform of that time.
Thank you in advance for anything you can do.

thanks for your inquiry. this scrapbook containes the names of most of the high ranking officers of that war...as well as pictures of uniforms. Most of the obits and news clippings are for soldiers stationed at or living in Oregon. So cannot quarantee that I will find your particular relative. However, I can send you copies of the uniform clippings. do you have an address when I can send them. I do not have a scanner, but do have a digital camera I can try making copies from and then sending on the internet. I will try that first. Stay posted.

Reba, yes, that would be super. If it doesn't work, email me direct at cmycrate@hotmail.com and I will send my snail-mail add. I prefer not putting it in a message board post. And, let me know if there are any charges for your expenses & time. Thank you, very much.

I have a suggestion. Take pictures of the scrapbook pictures w/ your digital camera and the newspaper articles and post them (for free) at Ancientfaces.com. I've posted newspaper articles, and pictures there and have had great success in having family find them. Its a great site.

By the way, I'm looking for my grandfathers information while he served in the war also. He was out of Louisians even though he was from South carolina (have not figured that one out yet). Name was "Sherfesee" if you have anything would appreciate it.
