Does anyone know if/where records for the Ukraine would be located for Czar Calvary conscripted and officers? G-G grandfather was Lemko-Rusyn and served about 1890 in the calvary. He was wounded and survived.

This is the Russian War and Historical Archives site to where you could send your request for information. (it’s in Russian). They have a lot of materials about Russian Army military personnel of 18-20 century. They can also do genealogic research. Lists of generals, officers, soldiers and clerks of the Military Ministry for the period of 1720-1900 (Fund 489), history of military service of officers (1881-1917) (Fund 409) and lists by seniority of generals and officers for 1737-1917 (funds 407 and 408).
For them to provide archive research, they need the following information:
1. For the period of 18-beginning of 20 century- Last Name, First Name, Patronymic, time and place of service (number of the regiment or a military institution).
2. For the period 1816-1881 - Last Name, First Name, Patronymic and military rank (for enlisted men –the place of service)
3. For 1881-1917 for officers and generals - Last Name, First Name, Patronymic and approximate time of service; for the rest – the number of the military division or the name of the military institution.
