Surnames: Malone, Crawford, Withers, Gaines, Burr
My Pvt. Edward Malone, Sr., and his brother Pvt. Thomas Malone, Jr., both of Mobile, served May 23, 1846 to June 8, 1845, in Capt. James Crawford's Co. H, Col. Jones M. Wither's 1st Ala. Regt., under Gen. Edm. P. Gaines. Earlier as Capt. Gaines at Ft. St. Stephens, Ala., Thomas Malone, Sr. (father of two brothers), U.S. Land Office agent, U.S. Magistrate, Asst. U.S. Indian agent, Clerk of Court, with Gaines; arrested Aaron Burr and escorted Burr to trial, Richmond, Va. Later 2nd Lt. Thomas Malone, Jr., CSA, served in Co. E, 36th Ala. Inf., and Capt. Edward Malone, Sr., CSA, served in Co. F, 24th Ala. Inf. He is buried Trinity Episcopal Church, Galveston, Texas.
