Hope someone can help. I have my Dad's discharge papers when he was in the Army during the Korean conflict. He never talked about his time, only about his buddies and the same stories. On the discharge is listed a "Most significant duty assignment" as Co B 501st Abn Med Bn. He never mentioned this. I know he wasn't part of the paratroopers. This has me puzzled. tried searching internet, but have come up with nothing. If anyone can help tell me what this outfit done it might explain alot abot. Thank you to whoever responds.

That was his casual unit just prior to mustering out of the service.

Be sure to look on photos, front and back, letters, documents in order to find clues.

With his Service Number, go to www.archives.gov and order his records. Although the fire of 1973 consumed a lot of records, you may get something. Takes a few months.

Hi, my Dad also served in Korea. Since you indicate airborne you may want to check a web site called Trigger Time. It is managed by a man named Mark Bando. He was in the airborne and has written many books. He is the historian for the 101st Airborne but may have information on the 501st. My Dad was also in WW II and stayed in after Korea and retired from the army.

I believe it refers to the 501st Airborne Medical Battalion.
