So, my grandfather, James Gilbert Liston (1933-2002), served in the Air Force during the Korean War. However, my family has never been able to prove this as we believe that his record was destroyed in the 1973 fire at the NPRC. We also have no physical proof of his service, such as a uniform, medals, etc. My dad tried once to retrieve records, but was unsuccessful. It was suggested that we look elsewhere for the records, like local draft offices, etc. for their records. This is difficult since we do not know where he signed up. So, here is all the information that we have:
Airman 1st Class Reg. AF. DD217AF, Novemeber 1st, 1951, Signatory Certifying Officer: M. R. Daigh, C.W.O. W/2, USA2, Dept. of Air Force, AF16 428 879
If someone could tell me how I could use this information or at least what some of it means it would be very helpful. Thank you.
