Am looking for anyone who remembers any of the following members of the 65th infantry Brigade from Puerto rico on the attached picture. Ricarte Rivera indicated he was wounded in action in Korea and was sent to Kobe, Japan. He was awarded a Purple Heart but never received it. I am trying to find someone who can validate this for me. please post any information.

I haven't found any of the listed with the 65th Infantry as wounded in action- here's the list from the 65th Infantry website. Maybe you can contact the webmaster to see if they have a veterans group.

Also, if ou're related have you sent away for his military records?

What is his full name, patrononic and matronomic? I cannot find him with the name provided.

Do you have an idea when he was wounded?

Here is the information I have from the veteran. If anyone remembers Ricarte please let me know. He received Korean Service Star with 2 Bronze Stars. He recalls while he was in hospital they presented him with the Purple Heart but does not recall leaving the hospital with that medal.

RIVERA-DIAZ, RICARTE

During the year 1951 while in service in the armed forces in Korea (Company K 65th Infantry). I was wounded in action (right arm) I was attended in the General Hospital of Osaka (279) in Japan, where I was hospitalized for two months approximately. I was informed that the medical records of this period were burned.

I went back to the legacy RG407 Dpt of the Army file and he was not listed. Not unusual.

Be sure to come over to the kwp.org Looking For - Army, and click into the 65th IR, lots of entries. Leave a message for him there.

Here is another fantastic link for all PR Vets:

Be sure to get in touch with the two links provided last year. Some of those who are on the mailing lists may have morning reports already copied. Those reports give info on disposition of each wounded.

However, some are very hard to read, others lost and often times men did not get recorded at all. Makes for difficulty in tracking casualties.

You may try contacting your local VFW, they can help Vets get their medals. I'm currently working with my local branch because my Uncle was wounded, then died of his injuries and he's not listed anywhere as a casualty. I was told that many who were sent to hospitals outside of Korea were not recorded or included on the Korean memorial or even put into the data banks at the National Archives. But if your friend was presented a medal, hopefully there'll be a record of that. Good luck.
