New to ancestry. Not having much luck.

Looking for information on my grandfather Alfred R. Hagenunger 1918-1980 from Heilbronn Germany. WWII POW that I know was sent to a prison camp in Houston, TX.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how/where to find out more information?

Thanks.

Cannot help you with your Hagenunger search but your message did ring a bell in my head with one of my uncles that was a pow in Colorado and Michigan.

A list of camps is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_War_II_prisoner-o...

You are most likely referring to Fort Sam Houston near San Antonio, Texas. That is where you should begin your inquiry for POW records. POWs were transferred into and out of "Fort Sam" on a regular basis. U.S. birth records will be month/day/year.

Was he returned to Germany after the war?
