My German family book says: Führer beim Löbl. k.u.k Baron Ciroldi Regiment,
1. Bataillon

I tried googling it, but I just get confused!

I tried googling that and nothing came up, are you sure that's correct?

Absolutely.

You will have to go to a database for German Military Records and once in there type in, for example, Norway in the search feature, then type in that date 10 May 1942 to see if anything pops up about what the Germans were up to that day.

In Google type German Military Records WW-II.

Let me know if you need additional help.

I just copied and pasted what the document said, so I would that I had not read it wrong! I'm just getting nothing when I try to find "Baron Ciroldi", which does not help me understand what was going on. I'm also going to contact the author for anymore clarification since it is from a German village book-- Sekitsch. But I do know it was before WWII (in response to Dr. Watson's post) because he (according to the book) died before WWII even started. I was thinking it had to be WWI.

This is the information copy and pasted:

<2670> GERBER Nikolaus, Soldat > 2640.4
* 14.06.1847 Sek.; k. 1860 Sek.; † um 1932 Sek.
Eltern: Gerber August, Becker Katharina Maragaretha
1871 HNr. 42; VZ 1891 HNr. 513; Führer beim Löbl. k.u.k Baron Ciroldi Regiment,
1. Bataillon
oo 21.11.1871 Sek.; TZ: Nikolaus Gerber, Ludwig Karbiener
BERON Sophia > 628.7

I will look into your links. Thank you.

I think "Fuhrer" here might be a supply and transport private. The supply train service in the KuK army was the Fuhrwesen, and its personnel were called Fuhrleute.

Yes as in a village lineage book and that is the town. The first part is completely unrelated to military actually. HNr is house number and vz has something to do with a census and their residence.

I believe that I've found the unit in question - it should be Airoldi, not Ciroldi. Reference to it can be found in the link below (Czech language webpage); 2/3 of the way down:

ERNEST v. KUDER
k.k. Oberlieutnant im
23. L. I. Regt. Baron Airoldi
geboren in Darmstadt
gefallen in der Schlacht
bei Trautenau 1866

edit to add:
L. I. R. should stand for "Linie-Infanterie-Regiment" ie. "line infantry" or the active infantry regiment, as opposed to landwehr or other units raised specifically during wartime.

I believe that "Baron Airoldi" would refer to this person and would be an honorary title.
