pg. 34
Stewart Herbert, Jr., eldest son of the "immigrant", Stewart Herbert Sr., had a printing press in Lancaster in 1774 and 1775. He served in a Pennsylvania Regiment of the Continental line. He ws Ensign in the 12th Pennsylvania Continental line, October 16, 1776, was made 1st Lieutenant, June 9, 1778, and waa in various regiments of the Continental line and mentioned as Lieutenant among gereral officers of the Pennsylvania line, sent August 13, 1784 to protect the Northwestern frontier.

There is also something in the Pa. archives which states that Stewart Herbert Sr. was the immigrant. Course this is not to say that the information is accurate and that he wasn't related to other Herberts in America.

We have been in touch before, but I was just reading your post about George Herberts who came to Loudon. I am still trying to trace the George C. Herbert who married Charity McCool in Loudon Co., VA around 1800-1810. Could one of these men be our George? If you have found anything more about them recently, I would appreciate hearing from you. You may e-mail me directly at mnkeit@rushmore.com.
