The NY State Archives web-site has an index of British Soldiers Applying for Land Grants in the Seven Years War. Many of the soldiers listed are said to belong to the 80th Regiment of Foot (Staffordshire Volunteers). The problem is this regiment didn't exist at that time and its predecessor (38th Regiment, 1st Staffordshire) never served in America until the Revolution. Does anybody have any idea what this database is all about? Thanks
