Thank you very much, it's great to have another set of eyes look at things. I hadn't noticed the information on that entry, about that W C Thomas being 27 and born in Lumpkin.

That might fit for mine... some basic info about my William C Thomas.

William C Thomas married to Amanda Langston in Gilmer County, Georgia in 1854.
His parents were Jesse Thomas and Rebecca (maiden name unknown). Amanda's parents were John Langston married to a Claressa Langston

In the 1860 census his family and him are living in Gilmer County, Georgia and his birth year is listed as 1837. In 1850 he's living with his parents in Lumpkin County, Georgia, his birht year is listed as 1836.

So if that roll was 1862 and he was 27 that would mean his birth year was about 1835. Not exact but quite close.

My William C Thomas' was probably born in Murray County, Georgia since in 1840 census his parents were in Murray County. Though in the 1850 census his parents and him were in Lumpkin County in the gold mining town Auraria. So it's likely he spent much of his childhood in that county so he might have considered/thought himself born in that county.

Not an exactly fit but certainly a possible fit.

I believe you're right about the Murray County probate records, it sounds like there are some records that include some information. Unfortunately I've exhausted any digital options I've found, specifically the Family Search digital collection of microfilmed Georgia Probate records here:

https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1999178

Unfortunately didn't find anything in Murray, Gilmer, or Pickens County records that seemed to relate to him. Unfortunately I live in California so not easy to travel to a Georgia library, some day though lol :)

I've scoured fold3.com a few times at any William Thomas, William C Thomas, or W C Thomas that could be him and have yet to find a match.

So the story is his youngest daughter, Nancy M (Manassas) Thomas was orphaned at 7 days old. So her mother died shortly after childbearth and her father died in the war. She and her sister ended up in the household of her grandmother (Claressa Langston) in the 1870 census in Dawson County Georgia, Jesse Thomas a son of his was in the household of William C's sister's household in 1870 in Forsyth County Georgia (Jesse's Aunt). Another son of James was with his mother (James' grandmother) Rebecca Thomas in 1870 in Logan County, Kentucky.

Unfortunately that makes it a bit complicated to identify who would go for a pension since he didn't have a widow they were both dead. Ironically Nancy married an Elias Bryant who was also orphaned (though not quite as young). Though I have yet to find any pension record or war record on fold3 that fit (though William Thomas wasn't an uncommon name and multiple entries that don't have much info).
