124th Ohio Vol Infantry/Battle of Chickamauga

Greetings to all: Wow, the costs of pension records from the NARA have gone up to $75!! I was out of Internet Genealogy for awhile--10 years or so--and at that time they were reasonably priced.

Is there anyone in Wash DC who can copy Civil War pension files for a reasonable cost? Unfortunately I moved out of the metro Los Angeles and Orange County CA areas now so do not have easy access to reciprocate research needs here in exchange like I used to do.

My line enlisted in OH and was killed at the Battle of Chickamauga 9-19-1863; someone got a pension for him at $37/month per minimal record I found online.

Thank you for any help in this matter! April Robbins

Ordered them at the lowest option price. Hope it pans out. As for the Battle of Chickamauga, I have read that the Confederates "won" this Battle and chased the USA to the Chattanooga Battle site and by the time they (confeds)"lost" that battle and retreated to Chickamauga, the dead from Sept were quite distasteful and were initially buried where they lie but were then dug up and interred in trenches (mostly due to the advanced decomposition and difficulty in dragging the corpses to the new internment site). Some time later, I have read, the US government established the Chattanooga Military Cemetery and the bodies were then disinterred once more and, due to inability to distinguish one body from the other--bones probably, the bodies were then reinterred at Chattanooga Cem as "UNKNOWNS." Is all of this factual? Incredible. My kin is one of those killed on the first horrible day of that Battle. I am intrigued as well by the legend of GREEN EYES at the Battlefield who is thought to be older than the Native Americans of the area as the Native Americans also noted the existence of this entity in their own Ancient Legends!

Opps, no one got pension; previous note was in error. I did obtain Service records however.
