John Franklin Shephard, Albemarle Virginia

I'm looking for Confederate service records for my great grand father, John Franklin Shephard. He is listed in the 1860 census as living in Albemarle County, VA (post office Charlottesville). Sometimes his first name is listed as Franklin, or J. F., etc., and there are different spellings of his last name (Shepherd, etc.). I assume he would have joined a unit that was formed in or near Albemarle County. He was born about 1828 and married Lucy W. (don't know her maiden name) around 1858 (they had their first child around 1859). I don;t have much more information on him - he later appears in the 1870 and 1880 cenuses, but his wife is a widow in the 1900 census, so I assume he died sometime between 1880 and 1900. Any information would be appreciated. Please e-mail me directly at durvin@verizon.net
