What was procedure, in Confederacy, for return of body to family after "execution by firing squad for desertion"? I have requested and received records from Natl Archives, but no court-martial records were among them, and no mention of disposal of remains of deceased. The proceedings took place in January and I do have a date of execution. This is most definitely a brick wall for me. Any, ANY suggestions are welcome.
