Re: How find grave of Union Cavelry soldier died 1865 in NC?
One of the first things to do would be to obtain a copy of his service records from the National Archives-it might list place of burial or disposition of body. By 1865 many of the soldiers' bodies were embalmed and shipped home for burial-embalmers followed the army. One of my ancestors died March 30 1865 during the Battle of Dinwiddie Court House in Virginia and his body was returned to Michigan for burial. You can also look at both the North Carolina and Pennsylvania Genweb sites for military sections-they may list military cemeteries. There also may be a volunteer in North Carolina who can tell you if there are any Union cemeteries located near where the battle took place. Some states have military graves commissions that have lists of all war veterans buried in the state and where they are located-especially for soldiers of the Revolution through the Civil War. Hope this helps.

At ancestry.com there is a database - Headstones for Civil War Veterans - I don't have a subscription but maybe if you post another question for someone to look for you.
Good luck

Hi:
Try Find-a-Grave.com - Just post the name and it will help you find headstone images. You can also volunteer to be a photographer. I'm in the Raleigh/Cary/Durham area of NC. Let me know if I can help you out.

Re: How find grave of Union Cavelry soldier died 1865 in NC?
I'm looking for the grave of a Union Civil War veteran who died in 1865, Lincolntown, after the close of the war. He had typhoid fever.
I ordered his service records from NARA, it states that he died, but not where he is buried or what happened to his body. This is my g.grandmother's first husband.
Here is what I know: Daniel A. Youngs Company C, Regiment 28 Michigan Infantry Died at Lincolntown, N.C., 4 Aug 1865
Farmer Enlisted 14 Feb 1865, Grand Rapids, MI
Any ideas on where to turn for records? I'm on ancestry and fold3. The widow's pension records are on Fold3, nothing about his burial.
Any and all ideas appreciated!
Thank you!
