I am trying to locate Emily Collins from Pamlico County (today, that is) , North Carolina. She was married to Frank Collins who , according to the Federal Pension Index, was a member of the N. C. Volunteers. They lived in Pamlico County, N. C. during the mid to late 1800's.

Thanks for any help.

Are you looking for Native American, African American, or European ancestors?

There is a strong possibility that Emily was Caucasian/Native American. She was my grandmother's mother. Her father was John Washington Morris. The family lived in Pamlico County, N. C.

Thank you for your reply to my post.

You are welcome. When ever you have a question about the Collins, or Morris families please feel free to ask. We can learn from one another. It never occurred to me to look at Pamlico Co., as a possible link for the Collins or Morris families. I find it interesting that her father was a Morris. I am also researching a Morris Native American family. I am looking for a Zedekiah Morris who married Cassandra Mackey. If you have any information on the Morris or Mackey names, I would greatly appreciate it. Apparently these families intermarried for many generations! I have a distant relative who has a lot of Collins ancestry. Would it be okay to contact her, and ask her if she has any information that may be useful to you?

Yes, it might help us to tie up some loose ends. I do know that Emily married Francis (Frank) Collins from New York. He was the son of Irish immigrants, Patric and Isabella Collins. He was a soldier in the Civil War, having enlisted in NY. His unit came as far south as southern VA/ne NC. How they met I do not know. He is not(or I have not been able to find him in the Fed. Census in 1870 or l880. Emily is listed as a widow in 1880 Census. She then reverted to her maiden name of "Morris". She & Frank (as he is listed on my grandmother's death certificate) had 4 children--Virginia (my grandmother), Alex ( a son who is listed as "Mulatto") and 2 more girls. My understanding is that she was raped by a black man and Alex is the off-spring of that encounter. I have located Alex in the Federal Census. This is where I am at this point. Both of my grandparents were from Pamlico County. "Papa," as we called my granddaddy, was Lafayette Demarquis Lindsey Simpson.

Thank you so much for your reply. Hope this may somehow help your friend.
