I am looking for records for my great-great grandfather who was an Architect-Engineer in the 2nd Boer War. I have very limited information on him, most of which comes from an old family letter and census/marriage data. This information is as follows:

Name: Thomas Shepherd
Born: About 1870
Spouse: Laura (Gibbs) Shepherd
Married: 1897
Children: Jessie Shepherd (Born in Cape Colony, Cape Town, SA about 1899) and Thomas Shepherd (Born in Sheffield, England on August 3rd, 1900 while the family was on leave)
Died: About 1903 in South Africa, aged approx. 33

I am at a loss to find his military records through WO97 as he died in the war. I need to find more information on him (i.e.; date/place of birth and parentage) in order to continue my search on this line of the family.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
