I came across this thread when trying to identify some medals that my wife's Great-grandfather, Thomas Wainwright, is pictured wearing. I have his discharge papers which indicate that he signed up with the 96th Regiment in 1864 and was discharged in 1885. The papers also record that he was awarded the Egypt and Khedive's Star 1882.

I can identify that the medal on the left (facing him)is the Egypt Medal, but what is the one on the right. It looks more like an Edward VII medal from the second Boer war but as he was born in 1847 that would make him over 50 and, anyway, ouside his service dates.
