I've come late to this Message Board, but would appreciate any help that other posters to the Board can offer.

I am interested in a John Tipple, of Manchester, who was in SA 1900-1901, and was awarded the QSA with Cape Colony clasp.
Unfortunately, his military records were quite badly damaged during WW2, so it's not clear what regiment he as serving in while in SA. His later military career was as a Gunner in the RHA, Service No. 24351, but he may have been in the 4th Battalion of the Royal Lancaster Regiment during the Boer War.

Any information/suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Lesley,
I was investigating my own A Puxty (Alfred, born Benenden, Kent) when I found the details of A Puxty, 72269 Royal Horse Artillery. I was hoping this was my ancestor but it appears you have greater claim to him than I do.
I thought you might be interested to know that there are some new records on ancestry which show your A Puxty in India also; serving as a Bombadier in the same regiment 1897.

Good luck with your research
Rob

Dare I suggest looking at findmypast? I went to TNA at Kew, and found and printed my G-Grandfather's brothers' records from that web-site on their computers. There may be further un-indexed records at Kew which can then be searched. Unfortunately I've been unable to find anything much on Ancestry before WWI.
