We've always referred to this man as "Uncle Frank." I believe his name was possibly Franz Purkart or Franz Kolar. Reportedly he was hit by a train and lost a leg but survived. The photo was taken in Krsko, in what is now Slovenia. This branch of my family is from Slovenia, I think from the region around Litija. I don't have a date - could be anywhere from 1890-1918 maybe?
Based on other posts here, the cap doesn't appear correct for the Austro-Hungarian military, but his collar has the stars. Any idea of where I can look to ID this uniform? Would he be a police officer or some other kind of official instead of military?
