Schermerhorn
I descend from the Schermerhorn's of New York. A lot has been written about them online. My ancestor, John (Jan) R. Schermerhorn (1752) m. Catherine Knickerbocker (1757).
Many online reports say that - "John R. Schermerhorn's name is found on the roll of Capt. M. Staats' Co., in Col. Kilian Van Rensselaer's Regt., in 1775. He was sergeant of his company."
I have had no luck with finding this original source. I've used Ancestry, Fold3, general Google searches using all variations.
I've looked at the book New York in the Revolution 1904, and see that there is a 4th Company Militia of Albany with Col. Kilian Rensselaer but my particular Schermerhorn is not listed anywhere as a sergeant. Lot's of John's and no John R.'s.
Where else do I look for where this was originally found?
Thanks!

As I continue looking I found this just now-

And he is listed. Would you say that it's in a book at the NY archives since it lists an 1887 printer?
