There are two Giles Bowers who are NC Rev veterans. My Giles was in Raiford's Co., and was married to Ann Lee in S. C. I'm interested in his parents and when he or they moved to SC -- Prince William Parish, Beaufort District. He was born about 1747.

The Giles Bowers you mention is my 5th Great-Grandfather and was born in Scotland ca. 1747,
I'm fairly certain that they are the same man. Giles Bowers of Bradley's Company of the 10th Regiment mustered in July '78 and deserted October of the same year. Giles Bowers mustered in to Raiford's Company in 1782 and deserted in June of '83 and died the same year. It was not uncommon for soldiers to simply go home for various reasons (illness in the family, the harvest needs to come in etc...). It would make sense that he might have been ill and just headed home and later passed on.
