Thank you very much for the information. It kind of looks like that the Baker's could have had a lot to do with the making of the Kentucky Long Rifle. I would say that is a vital piece to the operation of the rifle.
It appears that we are on the same direct line of our Baker family.
One of the Baker's moved to Arkansas from Knox Co. Kentucky John Franklin Baker and I am a direct descendant of his.
Thank you sounds like we are cousins.

I too am a direct desendant of the Baker Family and have a fair amount of information collected through the assistance of relatives along with my own research.
My grandfather - Thomas Baker
His father - Issac "Ike" Baker
" - Andrew Baker
" - John Hammond Baker
" - Robert Baker
" - John "Renta" Baker
" - Andrew "Esquire" Baker and his father Robert Thomas Baker Sr. - lived in Lancaster Co. PA. prior to Andrew relocating to Virgina - They lived in a community of gun smiths (they also being gun smiths)developed a device for rifling the gun barrel. This process made the rifle what it is today and was utilized in the "Kentucky" Long Rifle. Since John "Renta" Baker family was some of the first families to settle the Kentucky / North Carolina area, it (COULD BE)? that they introduced this to the area. John "Renta" Baker - born Wilkes Co. NC 1735 Died Owsley Co. Ky 1820

I am a Baker descended of those who went to Kentucky, Knoxville, county. I too have read and heard that it was one of my Baker's that invented the Kentucky Long Rifle. The Kentucky Baker family, the Boone family and the Lincoln family were close as far as the things I have read about them.

James Hayner b. abt 1750 NY - Loyalist in the Revolution - in KY by 1806 - help finding info on Loyalists

I have searched for years for a trace of my ancestor, James Hayner (Haner, Haynor, etc.) in New York State, where I believe he was born about 1750. I find no trace of him until he was in Kentucky by 1806. I believe he lived for a number of years somewhere in the mid-Hudson River Valley areas of Columbia, Rennselaer, Albany, or Saratoga counties, and I know he had either close or distant relatives in that area through DNA testing that closely connects James Hayner's line to the larger NY Hayner family, but have been unable to find any mention of HIM in New York.............until, perhaps, now. There is a James Hayner listed as a private on an American Revolutionary War Loyalist muster roll of Captain Gray's company in the New York Volunteers from February into April of 1781.........and he was listed as being in a Southern Campaign during that year in connection to a commander named George Turnbull. I believe his outfit was sent to the Carolinas at one point...........which is also important because I have a little indication that James DID live in the Carolinas before moving to Washington County, Kentucky by about 1806..........the Kentucky years, those being from his mid-life on, are the years of which I have details about him. Unfortunately, the first half of his life, as you can see, has been all but lost to history, and I am trying to find him and re-connect him, and myself, to his New York State and German ancestors, but am struggling. Does anyone has a clue or suggestion?? Are there other Loyalist records where I might perhaps find names of his parents or siblings? His children born between 1787-1800 we believe were all born elsewhere (Carolinas? New York?), not in Kentucky, but have only one census record clue where one grandchild of James says his father was born in SC. I would appreciate help from anyone who has knowledge of the Loyalists. Did New York Volunteers who helped in the "Southern Campaign" frequently stay in the Carolinas? Might he have stayed and had children in South Carolina and then moved on to Kentucky? Were these folks somewhat persecuted after they lost the war and he was intentionally leaving very little clue after arriving in Kentucky as to his past? He first shows up in the 1810 Census in Washington Co., Kentucky (remember he is about 60 years old by then--and lived until 1849 - almost 100 years old) I have been unable to locate him in 1800 or 1790 censuses under various spellings. Any suggestions of where I might go from here, especially to get more info on the specific James Hayner listed as a NY Volunteer, would be very helpful and welcome!

Hi! I too have been doing research on the Pattersons. I remeber that there is a family grave yard in Grayson County in which we had a family reunion back in the 1980's. As we walked the grounds we came accross a head stone that was dated in the 1690's. There is a legend that has been told in the family that the original family sailed here from Ireland some time before the pilgrims and were shipwrecked. There are no dates and locations or any documents to prove this. I hope this helped.

I have read that Captain Mark Thomas parents have not been found. I have a theroy. Maybe Captain Mark Thomas VA is Mark Thomas born app 1740 st mary's maryland died before 23 Nov 1773. source listed for death date is md prerogative court 45;419. I can only find a list of accounts and invtories in the md prerogative court index; there is no will? The prerogative court at this time ruled over more than probate. Maybe the reseacher is presumming all prerogative cases dealt with probate and thats why his death date cant be nailed down. Maybe they are one in the same. He doesnt make a widow of Elizabeth Abell but a divorcee. Captain Mark thomas was really close witha litinuet Johnston or JOhnson. Mark Thomas from Maryland names his kids, for the first time, not the same thomas famiy names that have been handed down forever, but names his children amost exact same names as lutinent Johnsons kids. George Robert Benjamin and or Bennett. Just something to chew on. Please if this makes sense to anyone please let me know.

Fishkill Supply Depot, Fishkill, NY

I belong to the Friends of The Fishkill Supply Depot, a not-for-profit group trying to preserve vestiges of the the Fishkill Supply Depot, a major supply depot for Washington's Army from 1776-1783 in Fishkill, NY.

In 2007, it was confirmed by an archeological study that hundreds of soldiers were buried there. They are in unmarked and mostly unknown locations in the area that was the Depot. We hope to correct this.

We are trying to collect the names of any soldiers who died at Fishkill and could possibly be buried there. Close to 2 dozen men have been identified so far. At last Fall's Revolutionary War Weekend, at dusk a moving tribute was led by the 5th NY reading off the names of those found to have died and are buried at the Depot. We would like to have more for the weekend event this year.

If you have discovered in a pension file that your ancestor spent time there on duty, was sick there, died there and was possibly buried there ---- PLEASE CONTACT ME OFF LIST !

We want to put names to the men buried there. We want to recognize those who served our country and were in Fishkill during the war. We would like to find living descendants of those brave men to help honor their sacrifice to our nation.

I have found mentions of men marching through Fishkill on their way to West Point and other strategic places in pension files. I have found men who were on guard duty at the burying ground at the depot.

We are trying to preserve the remaining open space from development. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. We hope this can be a nation wide effort.

http://www.fishkillsupplydepot.org/

Can you help us ???

Thank you,

Judy Wolf

Some of the DAR entries are old and many are being updated so perhaps someone will correct the error. Sometimes it doesn't happen until a new applicant supbmits her application with the correct information or someone notifies the DAR of the information in the pension that doesn't agree with what they have. Back in the 1930's the DAR found out that my Patriot had the wrong wife's name plus the Regiment was wrong. There was another man with same name from same county & state who was married to this woman. He applied for a pension 20 years after my Patriot died. Her father's will was found and it contained her children & husband's names. Children my Patriot did not have. Plus it proved the age difference.

Memorial Service for Nathan Frizzell

A Memorial Service and military headstone placement for Revolutionary War veteran Nathan Frizzell at Frizzell Cemetery in Calloway County, Kentucky, is planned for Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 2:30 PM. The grain bins of Burchett Farms on Airport Road are just to the north side of the lane going back to the cemetery. A local minister will be performing the service as military chaplain. We have the beginnings of a military honor guard and should be adding to it. There should be a good display of American flags at the service and we have a good number of descendants and relatives of Nathan Frizzell already committed to coming. This has been a joint effort by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Any questions or comments appreciated,

Thanks

Gregory S. Miller

702 Fairlane Drive

Murray, KY 42071

(270) 753-3742

I know this is kind of random.

My mother was a Carnes before she got married. The Carnes line started when an Irish man by the name of Carnes ventured into Stinking Creek, KY and married one of the Patterson Girls. This wasn't very long after Daniel Boone crossed in Kentucky. I was wondering if anyone knew precisely when the Pattersons arrived.

For anyone with Creek connections I'm a descendant of the Carnes/Simpson line through Georgetta and Lee Roy Carnes.

(I know most of my family history through K.S. Sol Warren's publication: A History of the Warren, Bingham and Carnes families in Knox County, Kentucky)

Thank you for the information. I will read it and get educated. I'm just very frustrated with this family. I dead end with Agnes and find no husband or ANY other family member except her 2nd husband Joseph Minzes and his decendants won't claim her as his spouse regardless of the marriage records!! Oh well. I'll keep looking.

Cindy

I need some fresh thoughts on a research problem. Agnes Snider was granted a land warrant in Shelby County Kentucky. Weren't land warrants granted for Revolutionary War Service? I am trying to find out who her husband was-if there was one. Is there a way to track her husband through this land warrant even though it was issued to her? Like I said-I need new thoughts and some good research ideas on this person. She and her daughter Julia came from Virginia to Kentucky then on to Missouri by 1850. They married into the Minzes and Blankenship families while in Illinois. They seem to be of the alien race because I can't find any other info.
I checked WorldConnect and found him with the spelling Magness (Mackness) so I checked the DAR Index I have access to and found this:
Mackness, Perrygreen (Some of the applications are very old)
Birth: EN 1722
Rank: PS
Service: NC
Death: KY Before (ante) 7- -1800
Patriot Pensioned: No
Widow Pensioned: No
Children Pensioned: No
Heirs Pensioned: No
Spouse: (1) Sarah Hamrick
You can purchase a copy of a woman's application that shows her genealogy connection and some service info via
http://www.dar.org or provide above info and mail a request to them. I didn't find any one with surname Magness in their index. It could be he had a wife Mary but the woman who submitted the application must have been a descendant of the wife above. If this is an old application and he had another wife Mary before or after Sarah--it missed being recorded. There are also DAR Lineage books at some large libraries that list the members and shows their genealogy connection to their Patriot.

The DAR Index has a John Murphy b. Ireland circa 1730, soldier VA, no pension, d. KY 11 Sept. 1834, wife Nancy Ransom
Also found him on this site: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&... with wife's surname Ransome. There are several with his name in the index but he's the only one married to a Nancy. There could be more with his name who served that are not in the index. Have no way of knowing if he's yours or not. The DAR site is http://www.dar.org and you can obtain a copy of a woman's approved application who had him as her Patriot--- it will show her genealogy connection & some service info.

There is only one Mark Thomas in the "Index of Rev. War Pension Applications in the National Archives". You probably already have this information but just in case you don't:

Thomas, Mark, Va., R18446: Va. Half Pay. *See N.A. Acc. No. 874-050172 Half Pay, Mark Thomas.

Note: The "R" infront of the pension application # (in this case) probably means the last heir/widow who applied was rejected possibly due to lack of documentation to prove relationship to soldier.

*"These instructions refer to a separate series of pension application files that are also in Record Group 15. The records in these files relate mainly to claims made by heirs under an act of Congress approved July 5, 1832 (4 Stat. 563), which provided half-pay pensions for Virginia veterans of the Revolutionary War, and to claims made by heirs for arrears de veterans of Virginia and other States under other pension acts...Abstracts of their contents are in Gaius Marcus Brumbaugh, "Revolutionary Ward Records, Volume 1: Virginia (Washington, 1936)."

Hope you find something here that you didn't already have.

My Patterson family begins with Thomas born about 1775. He had a son named William. This William had no children. William's male siblings Lorenzo, Joseph, and Liberty did have children.

My question has been: Did Thomas Patterson who lived in Randolph County, Indiana in 1820 and died in 1829 have a father named William? Thomas' wife Abigail Orcutt Patterson was born in Ky.

Hibbard? I found his name on several entries by entering his name http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi The 1st site above is one of the entries that has him in Kentucky. There is more then one, it seems, with that name as a different father is given on at least one--that I remember.

I've had the same problem with my mother's mother. She and Charles were married in the state I live in but no county has as record of their marriage. They lived in Spokane, WA as did her sister & his brother--I found their marriage record in Idaho--just across the border--so I even checked with that state. After 1912 they moved to Whatcom Co., WA. It makes you wonder if they were ever married--they had nine kids. In her obit it said they had been married 60 years which would have been in 1899. No one is alive that could help solve the mystery in the family. I already know everything about them except that-- so have stopped looking. Their death certificates had their parents names and where they were born (thank heavens) as that info led me to everything else. Good luck in your search.

Robert BLACKWELL / BLACKWILL of Garrard Co. KY

I am assisting a lady with her genealogy research. There is a Robert Blackwell ( also spelled Blackwill) who appears to be related to a Thomas Blackwell who is an established ancestor. Robert was a witness to the will of Thomas. Thomas died in 1819 in Garrard Co, KY.
In some notes concerning the American Revolutionary War pension application I was given, Robert Blackwill/Blackwell submitted an application for a pension based on his military service on 21 April 1818. It was number #S34653, VA line. He was in Garrard Co, KY in 1820.Apparently he was 59; 28 Dec 1819. He had a wife and two children in 1820 and he died in St. Louis MO .
There is a possibility that he might be from the VA line of Blackwells/Blackwills.
She needs to know the names and birthdates for Robert's parents, wife and children. When and where he served in the Revolutionary War.

Magness Family

Peregrine Magness Jr. moved to North Carolina by 21 December 1768 when a land warrant for 200 acres on KNob Creek in Mecklenburg County (present-day Cleveland County) was issued for him. He was a member of the Tyron County Committee of Safety during the Revolution. He and wife mary had ten sons and a daughter. Documents indicate that several of the sons' criminal problems resulted in their father's moving in the 1790's to Warren County, Kentucky where his will is dated 8 May 1800 and names his wife Mary.
