I am a member of a committee of some 30 professional and amateur historians who are developing an historical database to support there being a permanent interpretive park at the site of the Battle of Camden SC, 16 August 1780.
We have a website that, in the 2 or 3 months of its existence, is already the most historically substantiated website dealing with a single battle of the Revolutionary War (or perhaps any war).
http://battleofcamden.orgWe have already accumulated a list of some 1200 American verified participants in this battle, and a smaller number of British/Loyalists (we are interested in both).
If you have reason to believe that someone in families you are studying was present in the battle or in the campaign (e.g., Battle at Fishing Creek or Nelson's Ferry), please check our participants listing at
http://battleofcamden.org/participants.htmand see if we have picked them up. If not, let me know.
If we can find some document (e.g., pension statement of service, including rejected pension applications), we add them to our "verified" list. If not, we add them to our "unverified" list (and keep looking for verifying documents).
We plan to put online on our site full copies of relevant pension statements. In some cases, we have found such online but have been unable to locate the owners of the sites, so we link to them elsewhere. In addition, there are copies of other documents and letters related to the history of the battle.
If you have copies of the microfilm version of statements of service for a soldier who was at this battle (or a closely related one), please check with us to see if we have such for your soldier.
We are very interested in identifying the military units present and their officers. If you have copies of old muster lists, etc., they would also be helpful.
