Hi Beverly,

I'm sorry no one has answered your question before now. Ancestry came back online and I've just now started browsing the boards, just checking up and thought to check on this board. I don't check often on this one because of the fact of so few posts....

Anyways... if you've not already found an answer to your question, then I can say yes there is a way to "get it all together".

Rootsmagic will merge your two databases together and get you back up to snuff, as the old saying goes. Since it seems that the majority of your two databases will be identical or extremely close to it, it won't be hard to merge them.

There are two ways to do this. You can open both your files (split view) and drag and drop your additions until all is matching (*first! rename one of your files so that you know which one you want to be the "keeper")...

OR

Just make a 'copy' of the two databases and rename them (the copies) to something like "database copy keep" and "database copy merge". Open the "copy keep" database, and then click file "import" and choose the "copy merge" version. Rootsmagic can automagically (heck of a word huh?) merge all identical people and facts and leave you to merge manually the extra stuff that you had added.

When all is to your liking, you can rename your old files and then rename your new file to what you want. Personally, I would rename my old files, keeping their original names and just add "old1" and "old2" to them or something like that. Then I'd rename my new file to *whatever* (rename to your original file name if you want since the old one's will have "old" to differentiate them.)

Also... check out http://forums.rootsmagic.com/? for more help and lots of reading. Their forum has daily input. If you have problems with your merge, those people will be of good help to you.

Hope this helps you,
Val
