Hello again kj_norway,
I’m sorry to hear you won’t be able to help me beyond what you already have.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to follow your suggestion to “identify the Notes and Pictures” for I can’t, as you instruct, “Find that person in the GEDCOM (open the GEDCOM in NotePad.”
As I said in my last message, “I just tried opening what I thought was the Gedcom I just created on 7/7/15 and just used and instead of opening into a file showing Gedcom text like you showed in your last message, it opened into what is apparently a copy of Family Tree Maker 2011 (not the 2012 I used to successfully used to use on RootsWeb nor the 2014 I now have, but don’t use for Ancestry).”
So in spite of the fact that the Ancestry instructions say I am downloading a Gedcom, what I am actually downloading is a copy of a Family Tree Maker 2011 version of the Ancestry tree.
I guess my only source of help remains Ancestry and they seem unwilling, perhaps their techs don’t even know how to, help me.
Unless you, or someone else with the patience to read this long message string, can help me. I guess I’m stuck with what Ancestry and RootsWeb will allow me to do. I guess these restrictions help them sell more Ancestry memberships.
Thanks though for what you’ve told me for at least I seem to have a little better insight into what seems to be happening and why.
Bruce
