After my visit today to Sam's club I had to Google this & I came up with many results including this page.
I made small conversation with this man on one of the aisles, he was with his little grand daughter. The conversation went from talking about the pool his grand daughter wanted to remote control boats, to cameras to Maine & that is when I asked him what part of Maine he was from, he said Rumford. I told him that my mother in law is from Lewiston & I plan on taking her back this summer since we are doing genealogy & we want to visit all the places her ancestors lived, worshiped, went to school & worked in. He was very familiar with Lewiston & gave me some history & advice.
That is when he said since I was into genealogy if I knew who Samuel Wardwell was & well, I didn't. He told me who Samuel was & that he was his ninth great grandfather.
I'll be honest, at the time I thought it was very interesting but as we said goodbye, the shock came in. I couldn't believe I was face to face with ... history, practically. WOW, I am still feeling dumb for not have shaken his hand & introduced myself & asked for his name.
I do feel a bit better knowing that I was kind, asked what brought him to Jacksonville, North Carolina [out of all places] & did get his adorable reasoning for his move from Maine to Eastern NC. The love for his grandbabies.
Anywho, I just wanted to post this on here & just wish I would have gotten more personal with him to find out his line & such.
A really nice man though, in the less than ten minutes we talked I learned a lot.
