My ancestor Rebecca Nurse was almost 89 years old, was a widow and deaf. She was convicted despite the fact that many of her neighbors signed a petition asking her to be let go. The first jury wanted to acquit her. When the jurors announced the "not guilty" verdict, the victims started yelling and screaming so the jury came back with a death verdict. Her Mary Easty was hung as well as an uncle and aunt, John Proctor and Mary Lacy.
