On the little girl next door, I think this is in reference to his 2nd wife, Mary Andrews. Mary Andrews was actually his cousin and the daughter of the then judge/sheriff who presided over Mary Brockett Barnes trial for witchcraft. She lived in his house as a servant and I do believe you are right in his part in Mary's witchcraft conviction.
