The purpose of my original note was to make others aware of the possibility that their data may be downloaded and sold by others.
What brought this about was my noticing that when I looked at some individual names in my database there was always one other listing by the same person. By "unique" I simply meant that I had names that no one else had. And all the information is exactly the same as what I have. I know anyone can use the information and that is why I post it. But credit should be given.
The database I'm talking about has almost 3/4 million names and there is a statement that the information in the database is "available." How would you interpret that?
Nobody is "buying" data but I suspect at least this one party is selling data of others from Gedcoms that have been downloaded.
I wanted others to be aware of this in case they want to limit the size of GEDCOM downloads or to not permit any.
