I've just read your message about the Kathan Family Reunion which was scheduled for Aug. 2003. It's long over, I know, but I'm at a dead end looking for an ancestor named Elizabeth KATHAN. I know very little about her. She first time she shows up by name is on the 1860 census for Decatur Co., Iowa. Elizabeth is 71 which would put her birth at approx. 1889. It says she was born in VT. She was the wife of Jonathan KENTCH, 66, also born in VT. (We haven' t found anything on Jonathan in VT either). The Kentch name has been seen as Kentch/Kench/Kinch. They had four children Kathan KENTCH, (or ancestor) b. Troy, NY 1812; Charles, b. 1818, Troy, NY; Jonathan Burrell KENTCH, B. 1824, Oswego, NY, and Lucretia, b. 1833 in PA. They moved westward to Ohio, and Iowa. Could this Elizabeth KATHAN belong to anyone in your branch of KATHAN's. Sure hope so. It's frustrating not being able to find one reference to her past in other census or VT records. Thanks, Donna Williams Kentch in SD
