I was just searching for information about the Stumps in Franklin County and ran across your query. I am Orpha Stumps's granddaughter. Orpha was Elsie's youngest sister. I don't know if this helps but I do have a little information about great-grandma Mahalia's side. Her maiden name was Shaver and not Shafer. She was born December 15, 1873 or 74 in Floyd County to John Adam Shaver and Nancy Wimmer. She died December 12, 1952. She and great grandpa (John Riley Stump) were married on November 10, 1892. If this information is of use to you, please let me know. I have their family bible and have a little more information about Mahalia's brothers and sisters. I do know that Mahalia's sister Margaret married John Riley Stumps brother Thomas and the families lived together on Bent Mountain. I loved listening to all my grandma's stories about when she was a girl. Grandma Orpha passed away a few years back at the age of 93. She was a wonderful grandma, mother and Christian lady. If you have been to a Bowles reunion have them tell you about her.
