The GERKING Family Reunion Group will hold its 44th Annual Reunion August 9 and 10th, 2003, in conjunction with Athena (Oregon) Christian Chuch's Heritage Celebration. The reunion dinner and family meeting will be held Saturday late afternoon/evening so that on Sunday members may attend the church's Heritage Celebration, which celebrates the 130th anniversary of the founding of the church by Jonathan Rice Gerking (a son of John and Rachael Gerking), and also the 100th anniversary of the current church building itself.
The reunion is for descendants and related families of John GERKING, who was born 27 AUG 1764. He married Rachael RICE in Jefferson Co., KY, and they had 12 children, all of whom were born in Jefferson Co., KY. Members of the family moved to Indiana and other midwest states before many of them headed to Missouri and then some moved on to the Northwest. Some variations of the surname include GERKIN, GURKIN, GHERKIN, etc.
If you'd like further details about the Gerking reunion, please see the Gerking 2003 reunion information page at

There is a good deal of information about the Athena Christian Church Heritage Celebration at the URL above, but for further information you may contact Kayla Durfee at

This information will be going out over the next few days to all family members for whom we have valid email or snail mail addresses; however, please feel free to share it with anyone you think may be interested.
