I took another look at the NY Passengers database -- ancestry.com clearly "mis-transcribed" the info. It reads SWITZERLAND and someone changed that to SWEDISH!
The NY Passenger info is actually from Ellis Island. You can see the original manifest at
www.ellisisland.org AND you can see TWO pages, whereas ancestry.com only has ONE. Take a look, it's free. I don't know whether it will tell you anything new, but it's always fun to see original records, I think!
The Jean P. Arnold you mentioned can't be the one you're searching -- he was 34 at the time and that would give him a birthdate c. 1869. None of the Jean Arnolds immigrating into the UK have a birthdate close to 1877.
Whoops! I just took a look at the original image, not the results list. There is NO "Jean P. Arnold." The name looks like "Jessie P. Arnold" to me AND it's a woman (listed as wife.) Yet another mis-transciption on the part of Ancestry! :(
