Interested in what information is in the New York Vital Records index - birth, marriage, and death. I am planning a trip to NARA in NYC and want to prepare.

Too many people (1000+) to request records @ 22 each ($$$!!!) so I will use the index as a "source" and only order records that are direct for me.

The Califorinia Death Index guides me (names, dates, and parental info) and then I order what I want. The same for other states, too.

Can anyone tell me what is actually contained in the New York indexes?
