I found it interesting to look through county records for the plat and lot number of my family's home in the 1800s. Turns out it was being used as the "home" of the Wabasha County historical society and museum. I didn't learn that until after I had met with a local historian at that building. If I had known in advance, I would have poked around and thoroughly enjoyed my visit to my ancestral home!
