Irene: Thanks for your reply to a message that I had forgotten that I jhad posted. I have photos of my Dad in the mess, loading coal, etc, including the ship. I would like to see the book that you have if you would consent to my borrowing it. I would take very good care of the book, rest assurred. I can scan and send you copies of anything that I have. I also just recently received copies of all his military records. I didn't know he spent time in Paris, for instance.
I also was in the Navy and felt proud that I could join in my father's branch, during 1953-1957, and served on the USS Bennington, an aircraft carrier.
My Dad died suddenly at 54, in 1947, when I was 14. I never really knew my Dad and now that I am going to be a late grandfather, I wish I had known him better.
