I can't begin to say how much your very informed reply has helped. I followed all your instructions, uncovering more pages than I had for Richard in his military service, now comes the fun part of attempting to read the writing, though your link will help to interpret what I can make out.
I added the medal rolls to his profile and I had no idea about the Silver Medal. Nice to know he was commemorated for his service. I do know the shrapnel taken from his gun shot wound was used to make a ring, unfortunately it's location is unknown, and I need to look into where his medals have gone, hopefully safe somewhere in a relatives drawer, or in a museum. More things to uncover!
I will also use your information to hopefully reveal more details on other relatives in my tree that served in the war. I have lots to read up and educate myself on that's for sure (can't believe I couldn't distinguish a WW1 uniform to a WW2 uniform!). I also want to thank you for the link to 'Lives of the First World War', when the website goes live I have a few stories, pictures and postcards to upload. Will try and gather as much information as I can!
Again, a massive Thank You!
