Hello and thanks again Neil. Must have been having a blank moment with this photo because they are definitely British uniforms :) My granddad is the man in the middle (the boxer with hands like mallets!!). We knew he was in Ireland at some point in the 20's but didn't know who with - could have been the black and tans, RIC, or the army; or it could have been after 1922 and either been the army or RUC. If the North Lancs were in Ireland in the 20's then it must mean that he was in the army. Being from Colne, Lancashire he obviously joined a local regiment. I can now start tracking down his army records for this period. Thanks.
