Edmund Schmidt, Jr., 77, of Crockett, died Sept. 28, at his residence. Funeral services were held Oct. 1 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Crockett with Rev. Larry Knobloch officiating. Military graveside services were held Oct. 1 at the Hope Lutheran Memorial Park in Buckholts.

Schmidt was born Nov. 30, 1929 in Lampasas to Myrtle Garner Schmidt and Edmund C. Schmidt.

He married Dorothy Schnur on Oct. 4, 1952.

He grew up in Cameron and was a graduate of Yoe High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean war. After the war, he returned to college receiving his degree from Southwest Texas State University in chemistry.

He lived in Houston for many years. He was a retired salesman of heavy duty industrial coating employed by Pittsburgh Paints, Exxon and lastly, International Coating.

He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church where he was president of the congregation and served on many boards. He was known for his love of hunting, gardening, golf and bridge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy.

Survivors include daughter, Susanne of Austin; sons, Shane of Austin and Shawn of Miami, Fla.; sister, Elizabeth Holloway of Rockdale; a dear friend, Bennie Rush of Crockett; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Larry Holloway, Jesse Skinner, Don Allen Rush, Leon Nunley, Randall Browning and John Bonner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Research.
