HOUSTON - Funeral services for Coleman Twiggs, Jr., 85, were held Sept. 22, 2007, at Johnson Funeral Home in Houston with Pastor Marvin C. Delany officiating. Burial was in Houston National Cemetery. Mr. Twiggs died Wednesday, Sept. 19.

He was born Oct. 27, 1921, to Coleman Twiggs, Sr. and Mary Pratt Twiggs in Minerva.

Mr. Twiggs attended school in Rockdale and graduated from Aycock High School.

He then joined the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge after many years of service.

He married Velma Louise Locklin and they had a daughter, Coleman Louise Twiggs.

Mr. Twiggs later married Pearl Mosley and they had a daughter, Rita Lanience Twiggs.

He was married to Kay F. Twiggs, who preceded him in death on Sept. 14.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Connie Twiggs; and two sisters, Willie Mae Harris and Lillian Smith.

Survivors are two daughters, Evang. Dr. Coleman Douglas and husband Ellis, Jr. of Rockdale, and Pastor Dr. Rita Twiggs of Dallas; four grandchildren, Charles Carr of San Jose, CA, Constance Hippel (Roman) of Rockdale, Harvey Burgess, III (Pam) of Rockdale, and Twana Cabrera (Valentin) of Georgetown; five nieces, Vivian Twiggs Wilson of Fort Worth, Mary Twiggs Clark, Hattie Twiggs Jones, Connie Twiggs Murphy, all of Dallas and Helen Twiggs Rhem of Temple; a step-son, Rev. James Clark (Marsha); two step-daughters, Sharie Newton and Veronica Twiggs Tindle and husband Bobby Joe of Rockdale; also, nine great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 24 step-great-grandchildren, three step-great-great-grandchildren, all of Houston, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were James W. Clark, Jr., Joshua Clark, Steven Clark, Willie Rhodes, Oscar Thompson and Lester Williams.

Honorary pallbearers were Rev. James W. Clark, Sr., Mack Elam, Andrew Griffin, Bobby Rae Griffin, Jay Griffin, Claudie McCullough and Larry McCullough.
